I just reinstalled Sonos Controller S2 on my Android cell phone using apkmirror.com
It looks OK. All of my playlists, NAS access, radio stations appear to be intact.
I used version Sonos 16.1 (arm64-v8a) (nodpi) (Android 8.0+) from March12, 2024

- Check for Updates: See if there's an update available for the app to address navigation issues.
- Provide Feedback: Use the app's feedback feature to share your concerns directly with the developers.
- Look for Workarounds: Explore alternative methods to manage your speakers temporarily.
- Consider Reverting: Investigate if you can revert to the previous app version, if possible.
- Explore Alternatives: Look for alternative apps with better usability if necessary.

This from a Sonos tech support chat this morning. Does this make any sense to anyone?
[I have confirmed the issue is related to what we call a legacy share, so for your computer to share files with an app, in this case Sonos, it uses 1 of 4 protocols available, either HTTP, SMBv1, SMBv2 and SMBv3. HTTP and SMBv1 are what we call "legacy Shares" The issue with these shares is that they are insecure and outdated, since they were released in the 1980s, and have not been adjusted since. So they do not offer much security for your personal data, due to the growing privacy policies we abide to, we no longer support "Legacy Shares" The bad news of this is that this is why your share was removed, and you can't add it back in.]

Yes. You are using a sharing protocol that Sonos doesn’t support anymore. So, even though not one documented case was everfound where a Sonos system was infiltrated due to the use of SMB v1, Sonos has removed support for that protocol, and forced users to convert their shares to SMB v2/3 because of a little bad PR from over-zealous security nuts with too much time on their hands.

If you install an old apk version (i.e.15) you can at least use the system via spotify. The original app has so many issues i cannot use the system at all. You should fire the tech lead at sonos. Bunch of idiots.

App update sucks. No sleep timer. Can’t get songs to play like before. Really frustrating there is nothing I can do about it. No rollback. No choice. Bad move.

I have admit this is the worst update I have experienced since buying my first Sonos system. I have speakersin multiple rooms and with the new app I keep seeing my system appear and disappear within this app! Then when I do see my systems, Sonos Ones“network unavailable” that is ridiculous. Beam, Arc and Subsonline. This makes no sense. When I first got my Sonos system 10 mins and I was up and running. Use to be so simple now it’s complete rubbish. Over complicated layout and functionality is useless!

having the same problem regarding my Nasbox / home music library. I have significant money invested in Sonos equipment and now I cannot play my own music.
I request that Sonos either fix the new app to permit home library access of facilitate Sonos equipment owners to go back to the prior rev until they sort the problem.

None of this explains why the app says there is an update needed and then won’t do the update. My phone has the updated app and I can’t get past this ‘update’ situation. I have reverted my tablet to the previous app version 16.1 (with the orange logo) and it still refuses to function, when it finds a product we just get the same update requirement. I have my laptop that still has an old version (Sonos Controller for PC version 15.11) and this still operates well with all the functionality, i.e. it loads my music library across the network just as always. I did open the browser version of the new app (black logo) and this doesn’t work at all, it can’t see the equipment I am currently using the V15.11 to play my music on.
None of this sharing protocol issue explains this locked out update.

Correct. No Indexing without app upgrade.😡
