Healthy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Recipe by Jesse Lane Lee (2024)

Nothing is better than Healthy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate over the holidays. It is the best way to warm up after building a snowman or going tobogganing. If you don’t like the Candy Can flavour you can leave it out and enjoy a Healthy Hot Dark Chocolate. I consider this recipe to be healthy because we are sweetening it with nutrient-rich maple syrup and using antioxidant-rich cacao powder. I also add collagen to my hot chocolate for an added anti-inflammatory boost.

We make this Healthy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate along with Candy Cane Blondies during my Virtual Team-Building Cooking class. It may be too late to book something for the holidays, but I’m currently accepting bookings for January and February. I have lots of classes planned that will help you and your staff reach their health goals. Classes include Eat and Drink Your Greens, UnBEETable Detox and Grab-and-Go Mason Jar Salads. Email info@jesselanewellness.com to book or follow this link for more information about my virtual corporate wellness classes.

Healthy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Recipe

vegan & nut-free

Prep time: 1 minute | Cook time: 3 minutes| Serving size: 1

Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups oat milk
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 scoop collagen powder* optional
  • ½ – 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp peppermint extract
Optional garnish
  • 1 candy cane
  • 1/4 cup marshmallows
Directions
  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a small pot and heat until warm.
  2. Garnish with a candy cane and marshmallows.

NOTE: The collagen powder is totally optional. I like to add it to increase the health benefits of the recipe. It adds 10g protein along with anti-inflammatory properties that are great for your joints and digestive tract. It also strengthens your hair, skin and nails.

If you are looking to add a co*cktail twist, add 1.5 oz peppermint vodka and leave out the peppermint extract.

Looking for Healthy Holiday Recipes? I’ve got you covered.

I have a ton of healthy holiday recipes on my website that I know you will love. I keep creating them every year because I love having the smells of festive baking wafting through my house. I’m always trying to my baking as healthy as possible while still tasting great. To do this I use alternative sugar sources, like the maple syrup I use in my Healthy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Recipe. I also try to make my baking high in fibre to slow down the release of sugar into the bloodstream so you don’t have a sugar high followed by a crash.

Because I love candy canes, I’ll share my candy cane recipe first.

First up, Candy Cane Spelt Cookies! These are the perfect cookies to leave out for Santa or bring to a holiday party. They use spelt flour which is higher in nutrients and protein than regular white flour. You can get my Candy Spelt Cookie Recipe here.

Next, I want to share my Candy Cane Blondies Recipe. These are a little naughty because they are not as healthy as my other recipes, but they are so worth it! I love the crunch you get from the candy canes in this recipe. Find my Candy Cane Blondie Recipe here.

On the flip side, if you are looking for a candy cane recipe so healthy you could eat it for breakfast, check out my Candy Cane Black Bean Brownies. I promise you can’t tell they have black beans! The beans are awesome because they add lots of fibre and protein to this dessert. Find my Candy Cane Black Bean Brownies Recipe here.

And for my last candy cane recipe, Candy Cane Bark. This recipe is so easy it is hard to mess it up and it is really quick to make. I use carob powder in the recipe but you can sub that for cocoa powder if you can’t find carob powder at the grocery store. Find my Candy Cane Bark Recipe here.

The first gingerbread recipe I’ll share is Orange-Scented Gingerbread Squares. We have been making these all December long in my Team-Building Virtual Cooking Classes and they are a big hit! You can find my Orange-Scented Gingerbread Squares Recipe here.

Did you know you can also drink gingerbread? I created a yummy Gingerbread Hot Toddy Recipes that is a perfect way to warm up on a chilly night. You can enjoy this recipe with or without whisky. Find my Gingerbread Hot Toddy co*cktail Recipe here.

Want to stay healthy over the holidays?

Eating a salad before the holiday feast can increase veggie intake by 23%. This is because when you first sit down to a meal you are hungry, so you are likely to eat whatever is put in front of you. Eating a salad before your feast will fill you up and reduce the amount of high-calorie food you eat during the main course and your overall caloric intake during that meal. This is perfect for those looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Check out my yummy salad recipes here.
